Summary: This is a new position to join our growing team of incredible rod builders.  You will be responsible for building fly rods in our current line ups and basic fly rod repairs. Other duties include event support, customer support and daily shop duties. We are a growing brand and all contribute to the greater cause when needed.

 You will be trained by an experienced head builder and apprenticed through a 2-3-week training where you will learn the steps and build your own rod as part of the onboarding. No rod building experience is necessary. A good cultural fit and/or the right work ethic is what is needed. This is a full time position, with some flexibility on days and hours. Your work will take place at our headquarters on the Royal River in Yarmouth, Maine. This is a year-round hourly position.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Good energy 

  • Ability/dexterity to work with small parts.

  • Attention to detail. Fly rods are all about the details.

  • Ability to receive training and develop independently. 

  • The ability to work well in a small group setting.

  • Ability to use small power tools as part of the rod building process.

  • Logistically located where you can work in our Yarmouth location daily.

* New Position: Operations Manager 20-40 hr/wk

Summary: This is a new, dynamic role for Maine Fly Company as of late fall 2024. The primary responsibility for this new position is to act as an initial support to the MFC team and its community for marketing, customer experience, administrative, the coordination of company events, education, programs and community partners. This position will report directly to the owner and will take place at our headquarters in Yarmouth, Maine. Following onboarding, this position will also complete a fly rod building apprenticeship and can have some rod building duties upon the successful completion of the apprenticeship when needed.

This positions work schedule is on the company’s operational days. This can also serve in a 50/50 role of rod building apprentice and operations manager if 40 hours is desired until operational manager duties become full time.

* New Position: Retail Support/ In Shop Fly Tyer

Location: Yarmouth, Maine

Summary: The goal of this position is to be our first line of customer support both in the shop and phone.  When not engaged in customer interaction, this role will have varying weekly responsibilities with set shift side work list to be completed before the close of each shift in alignment of Maine Fly Company’s retails and fly tying objectives. This role will work directly with and report to the Maine Fly Company owner.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Shop Duties: 1st line for visiting customers, retail upkeep and stocking, shop cleaning, retail inventory & fly tying.

Fly Tying: Keeping our fly bar stocked. Managing fly tying materials. Tying and managing Custom orders.  (Commensurate with experience of course)

Event Support: This includes everything from display set up and break down, facilitation of events and other event support.

Customer Support: Engaging prospective customers and offering tier 3 level product support, knowledge, and recommendations.

By the end of an initial 4 week trial, successful candidates should be able to:

  •          Ship independently, package orders with 0% error
  •          Be able to pass level one to level 3 MFC product testing.
  •          Have casted/ lined up all of the current fly rods in in an effort to speak to 1st hand experience.
  •          Can tie more than 50% of the stock fly patterns we carry
  •          Has had on time performance for both the start and finish of each shift.
  •          Can open and close the shop independently.
  •          Is able to perform all necessary function on MFC point of sales system independently

This is an hourly part time position and does not come with full time benefits.
