Employment Opportunities
Now Hiring: Community Support + Fly Tyer Extraordinaire
Location: Yarmouth, Maine (where the rods are handmade and the coffee's always strong)
Maine Fly Company is on the lookout for a people-loving, detail-doing, fly-tying wizard to join our small but mighty crew. If you’re the type who enjoys chatting with customers, tying up a mean Wooly Bugger, and making sure online orders ship out smoother than a drag-free drift—then we’ve got your next adventure.
This is a hybrid role—equal parts customer support, web order wrangler, and resident fly tyer for our in-shop Fly Bar and custom orders. You'll also be repping MFC at our events (no planning—just showing up and being awesome). It's a hands-on, sleeves-rolled-up, glue-on-your-fingers kind of position.
What You’ll Be Doing (aka the fun stuff):
-
Tying flies for in-store sales and custom customer orders (yes, you get paid to tie flies!)
-
Managing and fulfilling daily online orders—getting rods, reels, and gear out the door with a little extra Maine magic
-
Greeting customers in-shop like old fishing pals
-
Assisting with general shop vibes—stocking, organizing, keeping things looking sharp
-
Showing up and helping at events, pop-ups, and demos (no coordinating, just being the friendly face and helper-bee)
-
Supporting daily shop operations and lending a hand wherever needed
You Might Be Our Dream Catch If You:
-
Can tie flies with skill and care (bonus points if you can whip up patterns on the fly)
-
Are organized, friendly, and unafraid of a label printer
-
Enjoy talking fly rods, streamers, and rising fish as much as spreadsheets and packing slips
-
Have some retail or customer service experience
-
Know your way around Shopify or are willing to learn
-
Like being part of a small, local company doing big, meaningful things
The Perks:
-
Flexible schedule (we get that the hatch doesn’t wait)
-
Staff discounts (obviously)
-
Laid-back, creative shop environment
-
Opportunity to build your fly tying presence and be part of a growing Maine brand
-
Occasional baked goods and fish stories
Think you’d fit the bill? Send us your resume and a note sharing why you want in—and maybe your go-to fly pattern. We're accepting applications on a rolling basis, so don’t wait for the next hatch
