Two Flies: First Flies Night

Date: Thursday, November 5, 2026
Time: 6:00 PM–8:00 PM
Where: Hosted by Mast Landing Brewing Company, 200 Lower Main Street, Freeport, Maine — Upstairs Event Space
Instructor: Mike McCormick
Flies: Maple Syrup + Woolly Bugger

Start with the basics.

First Flies Night is designed as an approachable introduction to fly tying and the perfect place to begin if you have little or no experience at the vise.

During this two-hour session, we’ll introduce the tying station, the tools you’ll be working with, basic materials, and the techniques used to build two proven fly patterns: the Maple Syrup and the Woolly Bugger.

Maine Fly Company will provide the vises, tools, materials, and supplies needed for the evening. Your instructor will walk through each fly step by step, helping you understand not just what to do, but how the materials and techniques come together.

Tie at your own pace, ask questions along the way, and keep every fly you complete during the session.

No prior fly-tying experience is required.

Two hours. Two flies. Zero experience needed.

Fly School Cancellation Policy

Our Fly School classes are intentionally small, and your registration reserves a seat that may otherwise have gone to another angler. Cancellations made at least 7 days before the class are eligible for a full refund or class credit. Registrations become non-refundable within 7 days of the class, but you are always welcome to transfer your seat to another person. If Maine Fly Company needs to cancel a class, you’ll receive a full refund.

Thank you for understanding—this policy helps us fairly compensate our instructors and keep Fly School classes small, personal, and worthwhile for everyone.
